MiniGT Honda S2000 – The REV-Monster FEATURETTE
Rev King from the Far East...
With the Honda S2000 AP2, the Japanese manufacturer had a two-seater roadster with rear-wheel drive and plenty of racing technology on board in its range between 1999 and 2009.
The Honda S2000 was a roadster with a classic design. The engine was housed under a long bonnet at the front. A narrow fabric hood protected the passengers from the weather when necessary but generally, the great sound of the engine was an invitation to drive with the top down.
The Honda S2000 was powered by a two-litre in-line four-cylinder engine, which (thanks to the high-revving concept) had an output of 240 hp and a maximum torque of 208 Nm. The rev limiter of the naturally aspirated engine only intervened at 9,000 rpm. The Honda S2000 sprinted from zero to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and reached a top speed of 240 km/h. In spring 2009, production was discontinued after around 111,000 vehicles. Adapting the Honda S2000 to new regulations would have been too costly.
The last of its kind
Lots of spoiler work and other sporty ingredients, as well as an aluminium hardtop that saves 45 kilos when removed, characterised its last S2000 phase, the S2000 CR. The pronounced front spoiler apron and the large rear wing certainly also fulfilled aerodynamic functions, but primarily it was all about the eye-catching effect. This Honda was supposed to look like a club racer, which stands for the CR emblem on the side and on the rear with a cost around 50,000 euros in 2009.
In 2022, such a Honda S2000 CR changed hands in the USA for an impressive 190,000 Euros. However, this is probably also due to the low mileage of just under 198 kilometres. The price of well-maintained sports cars is rising, especially in the US market. This is partly because people who couldn't afford their dream car when it was new, now have a lot of money - and are fulfilling their wish step by step. Those who can still buy an almost new car - like the new owner of this Honda S2000.
The S2000' final stage!
With the S2000 AP2 Mugen Phase II, MiniGT also brought the very hottest variant of the S2000 onto the market for model car enthusiasts. MiniGT released (as of 02.01.2023) around 8 different models of the S2000. Not only in different colour variants but also in the versions AP2, CR, Type S and in the strongest Honda MUGEN version. The latter is particularly visually striking with its reinforced roll bar and full carbon bonnet. As an S2000 enthusiast, you will more than find what you are looking for at MiniGT!
