Celebrating 60 YEARS OF MAJORETTE – FEATURETTE
Majorette turns 60!
Majorette has been inspiring collectors and car enthusiasts for six decades, and of course I count myself among them! The new vehicle lines, which were developed explicitly for the anniversary celebrations, focus on the history and origins of Majorette and are all adorned with the 60 years anniversary logo. In addition, all packaging is generally marked accordingly and designed in dark red and gold. The focus is also on successful partnerships and innovations that have led the brand to success. These include, for example, the partnership with Porsche, where Majorette has always been busy bringing models, 911-style storage boxes and Porsche garages to the market. The 60th anniversary Majorette collector's box, which Majorette kindly made available to us for a review, provides a more detailed insight into the overall variety. You can watch the video here:
First Ever- How it all began...
Part of the 60s series are the First Ever models in 6 different color variants and starting numbers. The models themselves are reminiscent of the Formula 1 cars from the 60s, which is perfectly related to the founding year 1964. For example, the Ferrari Dino 156F1 from 1961 or the 158F1 from 1964 come to mind. The four tailpipes to the left and right of the eight-cylinder engine are very imaginative, rounding off the racing design harmoniously, They are all equipped with a driver, free-standing wheels with rubber tires and a matching collector's box.
Deluxe editions - 60 years of partnerships...
Another great idea from Majorette is to continue the lovingly designed premium models with matching motif to the metal box for the 60s series. This unique car edition for Majorette's 60th birthday pays tribute to all the great collaborations between Majorette and its partners such as Volkswagen, Ford, Nissan, Renault, Lamborghini and Porsche. This means that the VW Bus is not to be missed, the Mustang in yellow is at the starting line for Ford, and we get the LP400 Countach in black and red for Lamborghini. For Porsche, it was the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in white and green, while the Nissan comes in a red, blue and white color combination reminiscent of the typical Datsun colors.
It is also the first time that we have seen an R34 GTR from Majorette! And lastly from Renault, the R5 Maxi Turbo in Rally Spec. What is particularly great is that we can compare this model with the original R5 Majorette vehicle from 1985. These models here all have opening parts, a suspension, rubber wheels and the matching metal box. The included collector's box also celebrates the respective license partnership by displaying the licensor and Majorette anniversary logo next to the retro-look car model.
Premium models with 6 additional vehicles and gift set...
We continue with the premium models, which also come with suspension and opening parts, but without a metal box and rubber tires. All 6 vehicles have been given a unique paint finish, including 3 vehicles that are completely new to this model series. These include the Citroen DS 21, the Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL and the Volvo 240 GL. Each of the 6 car models from the anniversary edition represents a different era of the last 60 years of automotive history.
From the iconic Citroën HY from 1968, on to the Mercdes-Benz 450 SEL from 1975, the Volvo 240 GL from 1985 and the Corvette ZR-1 from 1990, through to the Toyota FJ Cruiser from 2000 and the Alfa Romeo Giulia from 2015. This would optimally cover all 6 decades. Not only the model car itself, but also the Majorette logo on the vehicle reflects the design language of the respective decade. In addition to the already familiar models from the individual series, the gift set also includes the DATSUN 260Z from 1974 and the Citroen DS 21 from 1968.
I am curious to see how well the models will be received by collectors, model car enthusiasts and classic Majorette fans. One small drawback is the typical Majorette scale, which is not on a par with other manufacturers (Majorette 1:64 is generally always slightly larger than Hot Wheels and Matchbox, for example) and the fact that the protective packaging is still made of very fragile plastic. If you want to unpack the model anyway, this is not a significant factor. But for collectors who want to keep the models in their original packaging, cracked protective blisters are a huge nuisance. For us, however, the models scored points across the board, from the selection of vehicles to the chosen motif on it. This is clearly a big plus, and anniversary models in particular are always worth collecting!
