Libertywalk’s craziest builds FEATURETTE
Liberty Walk: the people who take "widebody" to a whole new level.
Their body kits are like the hot sauce packets of the car world - love them or hate them, they definitely add some flavour. Liberty Walk was founded by Wataru Kato at the age of 26. The business was initially run on a small car park where only a few cars could be displayed. Over the course of its history, Liberty Walk has become one of the biggest names in car tuning through excellent marketing and a passion for work. This has also spread to the world of model cars, with numerous manufacturers such as Inno64, MiniGT and Hot Wheels producing Libertywalk's blatant constructions on a small scale. In keeping with this, MoreArt has also conjured up an LBWK backdrop, which we have used for the photos of our models. In this article, we present you with the craziest Libertywalk buildings that we were able to get our hands on as models. That's why the Lamborghini Countach is not on the list, even though we would have liked it to be. By the way, the order is completely random!
LB Super Silhouette Works Mazda RX-7 FD3S
The latest model in our Inno64 collection is dedicated to the legendary Mazda RX7, which has already been the subject of a number of body kits. The best example is Han's RX7 from Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift. His RX7 was fitted with a Veilside bodykit so that the original silhouette was barely recognisable. This is hardly any different with this kit from Libertywalk. The Super Silhouette series is characterised by particularly special lines and extreme curves that can be found in racing series for example. It is therefore no coincidence that this RX7 has extreme similarities with the Porsche 935.78 from Le Mans in terms of its silhouette. The paintwork can also be chosen in a modified form to recall the legendary races of yesteryear. Libertywalk currently offers the body kit for the RX7 1993 to 1995 in the shop. The price? A whopping 25,000 dollars. Just for the parts, of course. You can either do the painting and fitting of the components yourself or directly at Libertywalk's facility.
LBWK Ferrari F40
We have also reported on this in a separate article on our website, as the car made big waves! For some it is the holy grail, for others at least a dream car: the Ferrari F40 (1987-1992). For this build, Kato and his crew went for a LM++ take on it, adding to the factory LM race car feel with some added width. LBWK transformed the icon into a low-riding, wide-body, almost LM look-alike, finished in bright white with the obligatory red circle on the door and some other decals. Like the entire front clip of the original car, now with dual exposed headlights under a Lexan cover, additional air vent above the front wheels, a wide air extractor just ahead of the windshield, and naturally large fins on the corners of this unit, all very impressive, and naturally a lot wider compared to the original unit. Inno64 made such a great 1/64 adaptation of this beauty, as well as Error404 which is usally three times as expensice as a Inno64 model. It is likely that we will see the latest version of MiniGT from 2024, where the F40 has been covered with blue foil.
LB Super Silhouette Works Nissan Silvia S15
The ultimate drift machine, equipped with a twin-turbo 4 rotor 26B engine that delivers almost 1100bhp. At the FOS Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 and presented to the public for the first time outside of Japan. In the UK, the car care company AutoFinesse also has an S15 at the start and even 1200PS under the bonnet. This body kit is also available from Libertywalk for just over 25,000 dollars. The yellow/white paintwork is reminiscent of the Nissan Silvia Super Silhouette from 1983, which is typical of LB Silhouette Works focussing of designs from the last Super Silhouette Racing Series in the 80ies. MiniGT published both versions, the AutoFinesse as well as this one below in 1:64 scale.
LB Super Silhouette Works LB-ER34
We continue with another Super Silhouette creation, the ER34 based on the Nissan Skyline R34 GTST. By the way, we have reported on this car in another article here on our website as well so feel free to have a look! The red-on-black paint scheme will be instantly recognizable to fans of Skyline race cars of the 1980s. Revealed at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, it was one of the show favorites and in true Liberty Walk fashion, held some surprises under the skin. With massive box flares, splitters, and wing, the Super Silhouette R34 pays homage to Masahiro Hasemiβs KDR30 Skyline that competed in Japanβs Group 5 series in 1982-83. Also known as Silhouette Formula, the category allowed extreme race modifications as long as the overall βsilhouetteβ remained somewhat analogous to the street cars. CM Model has released beside other colour variants a crazy looking version in purple chrome, absolutely insane!
LBWK Lamborghini Aventador / Huracan / Murcielago
Libertywalk did not leave Lamborghini untouched either. With the Aventador, its predecessor the Murcielago and the Aventador's little brother, the Lamborghini Huracan, Libertywalk has tried its hand at several vehicles and released various body kits.
There are countless model car manufacturers who have released models in 1:64 scale. First and foremost MiniGT, which is once again absolutely convincing in terms of price and performance. We have the Murcielago from Errror404Model in our collection as well which came on white and in such a gorgeous cherry red as shown below. Here, however, we are talking about a price range of 60 to 90 dollars per model for a Error404.
Honourable Mentions: Nissan GTR R35 and Porsche 997
These include absolute classics from our collection in different versions and variants of the R35 GTR. Libertywalk offers an extremely wide range of different parts and complete body kits for this model. There are also countless variants of the models from MiniGT or other manufacturers, some of which we have in our collection. But to show them all would take hours. We have therefore opted for V1 and V2, the 35GT-RR from CM Model even as a full carbon fibre.
Admittedly: Porsche and widebody, what brings us first and foremost to another widebody specialist from Japan: RWB, Rauh Welt Begriff. But Libertywalk has also tried its hand at Porsche and presented us with the 997. Inno64, among others, released numerous variants in 1:64 scale, including the Year of the Tiger Special Edition to celebrate the Chinese New Year 2022. SEMA but also versions with full chrome body were part of the Inno64 product range.
