Pop Race Singer Porsche – A reimagined FEATURETTE

Everything has its price!

Certainly, $900,000 is not a special offer by definition. You have to put it in the appropriate context, and that context is here: Singer Porsche. Now we don't know exactly how expensive it is to place an order at Singer itself. Judging by the fact that you have to go there first to describe your idea and risk rejection, it can't be that cheap. There are rumours of prices beyond the millions.

Even though the number of tuners of classic 911 models has risen steadily in recent years, Singer Vehicle Design from Los Angeles is still one of the big names on the scene. The Americans only convert cars on request and for selected customers. This has its price, and yet the cars are not easy to come by - which makes the opportunity to buy a used example all the rarer. Because ever since Rob Dickinson, the Company boss of Singer, got his first air-cooled 964 Porsche up and running in 2009 with the help of modern technology and more powerful engines up to 400hp, fans have been queuing up to see him in Los Angeles.

Normally, customers have to wait years for a Singer, but fortunately it's much quicker to get the tiny ones!

"Singer Porsche stays a Porsche"

Art or kitsch? Fascination or sacrilege? Dickinson doesn't want to get into such discussions with his Singer Porsche. He simply wants to build cars that look great and can be driven like them. "And there's simply no getting around the Porsche 911," he says of the sports car he reverently calls the "masterpiece". He has little regard for authenticity and sees himself in the tradition of the Porsche engineers: "Anything goes that makes you fast," is how he sums up their common motto. The model car manufacturer Pop Race picks up right there in the miniature world and provides us with numerous Singer variants that were once commissioned at Singer in 1:1 scale. This includes the red-gold 911 of type 964, which looks extremely high-quality in 1:64 scale with a fascinating attention to detail!

Eyecatcher 24/7: An absolute must in every car collection, no matter what scale!

Homage or blasphemy?

At the end of 2015, a shiny metallic 911 Targa from 1990 was a topic of conversation. This was also the first open car from the pen of Rob Dickinson and his Porsche specialists. The principle was the same as with the closed 911 - Singer had a customer to deliver a 911 in order to "re-imagine" it. That's what Dickinson calls what his company does. The 1990 964 Targa was completely stripped down to its component parts and the boot lid, bonnet and all four wings were removed. Singer replaced them with carbon parts in the look of the late seventies. The rims are Singer's own creations made of aluminium, reminiscent of the "Fuchs rims" from the 60s. The Pop Race model picks up on this detail perfectly!

Only the best of everything!

The classic Targa frame of the Singer model is not made of stainless steel, but of nickel. In addition, the frame of the Singer Targa does not have three slots, but only two: A homage, but with variation. The interior was furnished according to the customer's personal taste, integrated seat for the offspring included. Leather and silk are not exotic dreams at Singer, they are part of the standard repertoire.

In general, the customer is involved 24/7 in the process of creating his car: Many travel to California several times to meet with the makers on site. However, if you want to save some money and still buy several Singer variants at once, you should consider the somewhat smaller 1/64th scale version from Pop Race then. In terms of quality and price, the brand is in a league of its own and is still quite unknown in European and American circles. This is likely to change in the next few years, pretty sure about that! Without sticking our arm too far out of the window: With these models, Pop Race has already catapulted itself into the model car Olympus!

I have 4 now and think they are top notch!
I would like to know what the silver button is on the bonnet.
    Trademark possibly?
Thank you & keep thinking small!

      Hi Lisa!
      They are absolutely fantastic, right?
I’m so happy with these as well, next Pop Race article is planned for this Sunday btw!
Concerning to your question: Its actually the fuel cap. Because its based on the racing cars from the past, where you were able to put the fuel into the tank from both sides!
Thats why its located in the middle of the car. (And the tank is not fake, its fully functionable).
But you can also open the front trunk as well, so you can avoid scratching it while fueling up.
      All the best! 😀
