The Story of AMG – FEATURETTE

Two men, three letters… 50 years ago, a unique company was born out of an overwhelming passion for motorsport. A for Aufrecht, M for Melcher and G for Großaspach – the names behind these three letters are the starting point of a rapid development from a two-man business to a global brand. The story begins in the 1960s: The two engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher worked on the 300 SE racing engine in the Daimler-Benz development department. until the company discontinued all motorsport activities. But Aufrecht and Melcher’s hearts continue to beat for racing. In Aufrecht’s house, they continued to fine-tune the engine’s performance in their spare time.…

Tarmacworks LANCIA 037 RALLY – A legendary FEATURETTE

A history of its own… Group B is considered by fans to be the golden (and towards the end, unfortunately, also dark) era of rallying. Walter RΓΆhrl and the Lancia Rally 037 were among its heroes. That car, which RΓΆhrl likes to call the best rally car of his career, turned 40 in 2022. Tarmacworks took this as an opportunity to present us with 4 different Lancia Rally 037s in 2022 and 2023. With their new series HOBBBY64+, Tarmacworks entered completely new spheres! Martini, Bastos and Rothmans: The sponsors at the time were, as everywhere else, mostly tobacco and spirits companies. The development of the Lancia Rally 037 began in…

In the meantime, countless videos can be found on the internet where Akira Nakai can be seen either in his workshop or working on a RWB project abroad. His conversions are discussed in a highly polarising manner, both negatively and positively. He developed his penchant for fast cars at a young age on the roads and racetracks of Tokyo. In the early nineties, at the age of 28, he fulfilled his dream and bought a Porsche 930, which he immediately modified. A…

    Tarmacworks Pagani Zonda Cinque FEATURETTE

Art in absolute perfection! The Pagani Zonda Cinque was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show with the intention of creating the most extreme road-going version of the entire range – limited to just five examples. The Cinque is a special version of the 2008 Zonda from Italian carmaker Pagani, embodying the road-going variant of the Zonda R. To achieve the downforce of 750 kg at 300 km/h, the Cinque was equipped with a new front spoiler, a newly designed adjustable rear wing and flat underbody. Many aerodynamic features were taken from the Zonda R, such as the air intakes on the bonnet and roof. It was the first…

OKM64 and Tarmacworks – Mitsubishi vs Subaru – Rally Legends FEATURETTE

They began as bores and ended as legends. Rarely have cars had such stellar careers as the four-wheel-drive rally cars Subaru Impreza WRC and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI. Meanwhile, in a country far to the east, a company with the heavyweight name Fuji Heavy Industries was struggling to make its products famous and sought after beyond the rising sun. But Europe hardly took any notice of the Subaru brand’s models, even though they offered clear unique selling points with permanent four-wheel drive and boxer engines. Because the once similarly Audi brand with its Quattros had made its way onto the big boulevards via rally tracks, the Japanese also entered…
