From RB30 engines to scaled modelcars – JDM MEET FEATURETTE
How it all started:
On 10 August this year in Matten near Interlaken, it was that time again. The 2024 car meet for Japanese car fans was organised at the airfield for the fifth time. But for the first time, the fifth anniversary event was not only accompanied by food shops, but also by stands that had nothing to do with food as well. And this is where our model car shop came into play: we have been selling various scaled modelcars from various manufacturers and brands under our partner Doramas for several years. The link to the webshop can be found at the end of this article or directly in the navigation bar of our website under βStoreβ.
As we have now made a big name for ourselves in the model car scene on social media with our Toycarsaddict_Daily channel, the organisers of Nozomi approached us. We agreed without hesitation. After a very successful first meetup at the Flatee event in Buchs in the middle of this year, this was now the second event at which we were allowed to present and sell our models. Many thanks and best wishes once again to everyone who visited us on this wonderful day!
Passion for JDM:
Our passion for Japanese vehicles is no coincidence. As big Fast and Furious fans from the very beginning, we were particularly mesmerised by Paul Walker's appearances in Japanese vehicles. As luck would have it, in 2020 we decided to have a Nissan Skyline R33 imported and convert it for Swiss roads in accordance with the rules. A second Instagram channel JDMAddict_Daily was born. The R33 is therefore an ideal vehicle to establish ourselves in the Swiss JDM scene and to promote our own cause, but also to get in touch with other like-minded people. Not to mention the wonderful trips we have been able to take so far. A Subaru BRZ in rally spec was also added at the beginning of 2024. There will soon be more about the two vehicles on our channels and in another blog post. Because there is some very interesting content planned for the next few months.
LetBricks RB30 Engine!
We also had the honour of exhibiting and demonstrating the legendary RB30 engine from Letbricks. This legendary RB-30-L6-3.0L SOHC Inline Six-cylinder Four-stroke Gasoline Engine is fully functional! Weighing almost 2 kilos and consisting of almost 2000 parts, this model is a masterpiece of engineering. The assembly requires dexterity and a steady hand. It is best if you work on it together with friends or family. Link to it is also added at the end of this article, with the code βKammβ you save another 15% on the product.
Anyway we've been able to fit the engine onto the roof of our R33 so that JDM fans could do some omparisons with our original RB engine. Because the concept has remained the same after all these years. The RB30DET Single Turbo from Letbricks was used between 1985 and 1991 in various cars. This was followed by the legendary Nissan Skyline era with the R32, R33 and R34 generations. As a result, we got to see the RB26DETT in the GTR variants and the RB25DET in the GTST variants. I can only confirm this myself: One of the most legendary as well as pleasant and tuning-friendly engines we have ever driven!
