The new BBURAGO Ferrari 812 Competizione is…

...actually not bad at all to be honest! Or to be more precicse: surprisingly good! Because we haven't seen any real treats among the Bburago models in 1:64 scale so far. For one thing, they were far too big for this scale, and for another, the plastic rims just looked awful. As in our example, the rims had to be given a little extra touch to make the model look reasonably good. There have been some interesting models so far, starting with this F12 TDF or the 458 Speciale. They all simply gave the impression of being happy to be able to add such a model to the collection, but not as a Bburago model, but as a Hot Wheels, Tomica or other manufacturer.

Bburago has always been the address for us, together with Maisto, when it came to adding inexpensive 1:18 scale models to our collection. But the 1:64 scale models have always seemed like foreign bodies. Now, however, Bburago has surprised us with this model here, in 2 versions: The Ferrari 812 Competizione. Once as an A in red and once as a B version in silver. Fitted with printed Pirelli P-Zero rubber tyres, this model rolls smoothly on its own and looks much more upmarket than its predecessor. The doors can also be opened on both sides, which was not the case with the previous model. The Ferrari Monza SP1 was already an absolute eye-catcher and a great surprise to see the direction in which Bburago is moving.

The packaging also makes a good impression, even if it is unfortunately quite fragile and you have to tear open the packaging directly to see the model.

Bburago is an Italian manufacturer of toy and collector models from Burago di Molgora. The brand was sold to MC-Toys and production was moved to China in 2007. A certain Mario Besana had been producing toy and model cars since the 1960s, later under the name Besana "by" Bburago, or Bburago for short. When the licence rights for Ferrari models went directly to Mattel in the 1990s and Bburago missed the trends time and time again, sales figures fell and the proud company was sold around 2005.

Ferrari 812 Competizione in a nutshell

Unfortunately, the missing side mirrors are somewhat conspicuous. These spoil the look somewhat. It wouldn't have been difficult to at least hint at the mirrors.

In 2021, Ferrari launched the hardcore version of the 812 Superfast: the special model is lighter and has a V12 with 830 hp that revs up to 9500 rpm. This was the most powerful Ferrari V12 in a production car at the time, with a sound that was unrivalled. Just like its predecessors, the 599 GTO and F12 Tdf, the special edition of the 812 was also limited. The coupé version was limited to 999 units, while only 599 units of the open-top 812 Competizione A were produced. In contrast to the F12 Tdf, the Italians produced an open-top version of the special model, the 812 Competizione A, directly at the market launch. This was not available for the predecessor. The 599 GTO was followed by the 599 SA Aperta, which was limited to just 80 units. At that time, it cost around $500,000. Today, the Competizione models are priced above the million mark, the Aperta at around 2,000,000.

Our conclusion

Ferrari 812 Competizione Bburago
Of course Bburago can't compete with BBR, but for just under $10 this model cuts a really good figure and is a big improvement on the old Bburago models in this scale!

Bburago is also more than convincing in terms of price, because at just under $10 the model is almost twice as cheap as its direct competitor BBR. With BBR we are between 20$ and 30$ depending on the reseller. But all the details fit perfectly, the quality is on top and: The 812 also has side mirrors, which the Bburago model unfortunately does not have. A direct comparison would again be worthwhile for a YouTube video, where we go into the topics in more detail. You can look forward to further direct comparisons, such as with the Aston Martin Valkyrie or Lexus LFA, where various manufacturers have also tried to reproduce as perfect an image of the LFA as possible. But with this 812 Competizione, Bburago has definitely shown once again that despite the emerging Hot Wheels x Ferrari hype, Bburago is a force to be reckoned with and you can integrate one or the other model into your collection without hesitation!
