NEED FOR SPEED – Legends of the past – FEATURETTE

Petrol in the blood since 1994...

There's simply no getting around the name Need for Speed, probably everyone has heard of it if they're into cars. Need For Speed, or NFS for short, has made a name for itself in the virtual world since 1994. More than 24 titles have been released in the meantime, each telling its own story. Some games were a complete disaster, others have secured themselves a permanent place in the Olympus of the gaming world. These include, at least as far as we are concerned, the games called Need For Speed Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted and Carbon. They were released after the turn of the 2000s, at a time when car tuning was a permanent fixture in the automotive world and Paul Walker was making the cinema unsafe together with Vin Diesel.

Need for Speed: Underground (2003)

In 2003, it was revolutionary: Need For Speed took a completely new direction. True to the Fast and Furious motto, the street racing subculture was an integral part of the series. Races were held in an urban city environment at night full of neon lights. The vehicles were no longer priceless sports cars but street racers with fat extensions and spoiler lips! Visually and performance-wise, you could tune as much as you wanted, you could drag race or take part in drift events. There was even a story mode where we met Eddie.

Even if the model does not really correspond to the version from the game and does not have a matching body kit, at least the prints are all true to the original design

Fast x Speed also offers model car versions of his Nissan Skyline GTR R34. One is the version from the original Underground title and the 2015 version from the part that was simply called "Need For Speed". The paintwork is slightly different compared to the original and a large black rear spoiler was installed on the 2015 version. The model shown in the thumbnail of this blog post is again a 1:1 custom vehicle from a Hot Wheels base. A very special piece, which is only available once as a model in this form.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)

In 2005, Need for Speed: Most Wanted took an exciting new direction by introducing police chases and seamlessly blending them with underground racing culture. The game featured an interesting storyline centered around the player's pursuit of the city's most notorious street racer while evading the relentless police. This installment also saw the return of various racing modes, including circuit, sprint, drag and speed trap races, where you had to drive through speed traps as quickly as possible. With its intense police chases, different racing modes and storyline to become number 1 on the blacklist, this Need for Speed game became an absolute fan favorite! DCM Model also produced the highly sought-after model of the BMW M3 E46 GTR, which sold like hot cakes. One of our absolute favorites in the collection and unfortunately now very hard to get!

Razor's BMW M3 GTR is an absolute must in every model car collection, the details are just phenomenally good!

Need for Speed: Carbon (2006)

This part was more or less a continuation of Most Wanted, also in terms of the story. Many elements were carried over from its predecessor and new aspects were added. Carbon shifted the focus to territorial gameplay, where players competed for control of different neighborhoods by winning races and challenging rival crews. Unique to this game was the inclusion of different crew members who could help you in a race with special abilities.

In addition, Carbon introduced Autosculpt, an innovative customization feature that allowed players to further alter the look and performance of their car. The night-time graphics and thrilling canyon races added to its distinctive atmosphere. One of the territories was Kenji Bushido's Crew area. With his green and black Mazda RX7, Bushido made his presence felt before we had to defeat him in a final battle. This vehicle has also recently become available on the market, the same as Eddie's Skyline with a matching figure. The RX7 was produced by GDO Hunter, who previously tried a BMW M4 in the Most Wanted look, but it only sold mediocrely.

Kenji Bushido's RX7 hardly resembles the model either, but at least the paintwork is perfect. Nevertheless, the model looks really smart!
