Hot Wheels 1982 Lamborghini Countach LP500S – A MILESTONE FEATURETTE

Countach...a shout of excitement!

An appropriate interpretation for the name of the Lamborghini Miura successor! The Countach broke all traditions with its aggressive and very angular design and was at the same time a symbolic design language figure of the 80ies! The hot outfit of the gull-winged flounder matched the driving performance even better: Even the very first LP400 model (1974-78) sprinted to 100 km/h in astonishing 5.4 seconds. A total number of 375 hp from a 4 litre V12 were absolute top values at that time!

In 16 years of production, several model variations and performance upgrades were made until the final model called "25th Anniversary" has ended an era. Between 1982 and 1985 all the light were spotted on the "Countach LP500S" which was meanwhile the third variant of the Countach. This version straightly replaced the LP400S. Through the whole Countach era he kept its typical boxy shape until the end of its production, but was constantly adapted through the time periods.

"MORE POWER!"

The 1982 Lamborghini Countach LP500S was further revised compared to its predecessor. It was more powerful and easier to handle than ever before, even if reversing through the rear window, which was only a few centimetres high, was a nearly impossible move to try! The Countach seemed to be miles ahead of its time, especially in terms of looks. Ferrari, for example, brought out a model with the 512BB that was no way near as famous and successive as the Countach. Only 321 of the 500S were built. Which means on the other hand that it is much easier to get hold of one of these Hot Wheels Countach models in 1/64th scale.

"Too good to be true?"

At first glance, it's hard to believe that we're talking about Hot Wheels models here. The proportions are too perfect, the paint too flawless, even the doors can be opened as scissor doors, just like the original. Too good to be true? Because all 3 models are exclusively so-called "Red Line Club"-models. Such Hot Wheels vehicles are only available online on an explicitly announced day on the Mattelcreations website. This is of course only while stocks last!

In 2019, the first variant in "Spectraflame Red" (Hot Wheels' official name for their own created trademarked shiny paint) came onto the market which was limited to only 12,500 pieces. Compared to the millions of Hot Wheels models all around the stores this may seem like nothing at first glance, but compared to the original Lamborghini Countach 500S with only 321 units, 12'500 turns to be as a big thing!

Limited and numbered...

Just one year later, the 500S in "Spectraflame Black" followed, which was also limited to 12'500 pieces. In the meantime, models like this go for rediculous prices over the counter and on selling platforms such as Ebay! With the two other colour variants in the 2022 release, however, it is a bit easier to get hold of one of these models. The limitation is unclear, as the "Spectraflame Olive" model in this case does not have a sticker to indicate the limitation. Since all models are individually numbered on the sticker, one can only speculate about this latest variant.

The third recent variant in Spectraflame Ice Blue is still a long time coming. In 2022, Mattelcreations members could order or actually "choose" this model. However, it is still not clear when these are going to be delivered. Undoubtedly with the three published samples Hot Wheels has done an incredibly good job of creating such an iconic vehicle as the Lamboghini Countach true to scale. In the meantime, we're twiddling our thumbs a bit for the fourth in the bunch which has yet to come...soon I guess!
